It’s a whole new world for children born with Down syndrome (also known as Down’s syndrome–both are correct). In the past, a child born with the chromosomal disorder may have faced a life of exclusion, ridicule and perhaps even institutionalization. We did not understand the disorder and humans unfortunately tend to isolate and ostracize that which we do not understand.
This one is really simple (so simple the kids can do it) and potentially super healthy. In a bowl or glass, layer or mix healthy yogurt, granola and fruit. There are organic varieties of all three available. This is a great recipe for breakfast or a snack for kids and adults alike.
It’s a great time to put our kids in cute wool sweaters and take them out to the city park or the woods for a tromp in the leaves. Well, the good and bad news is that you’re not alone in your thinking. At a variety of parks, woods, and beaches you’ll find a lot of people out walking their dogs –– which, for a new parent, or parents of babies and young children without dogs, can be a source of some anxiety. So how do you introduce your kids to dogs while outside?
There is a lot going around on the news about the worldwide “outbreak” of a new influenza A virus known officially as H1N1 and colloquially as the “swine flu.” Even here in BC, the news is reporting that there are outbreaks occurring at some private schools. With all this information, it can be difficult to separate rumour from fact. The following is summarized from the World Health Organization(WHO) website.

While in Seattle (Washington) recently, Urban Mommies discovered Molly Moon’s Ice Cream and fell in love! Many parents ask – what is the best way to start brushing my baby’s teeth? Well we have some answers for you!
Begin brushing your baby’s teeth as soon as their first tooth appears. Use a soft, baby toothbrush with just a tiny dab of fluoride toothpaste. Brush twice a day; brushing before bed is especially important. Don’t miss brushing where the teeth and gums meet! Lift your baby’s lip regularly to check for white or brown spots on their teeth. Look closely along the gum line. Call your dentist if you notice anything unusual. Take your baby to see a dentist once their first tooth comes in or by their first birthday.
We’ve been on a rampage lately. Not to get the kids to pick up their socks, put the toilet seat down, or call if they’ll be out past ten (just kidding). We’ve resolved to find some healthy snacks. We thought it wouldn’t be a problem. Whoops. I will never forget my first outing to a ‘special event’ when Thomas the Train was in Squamish, and I took my 1 year old to see him. I actually remembered diapers that day, but forgot the snacks. I thought I’d be fine to purchase something. After combing the grounds, I found cotton candy, chips, and mini doughnuts.
What are some fun and simple ways to get excerise outdoors this Spring with my baby?
