Drinking Water While Pregnant is necessary for the baby’s health as well as yours. When good trainers work with their clients, they always stress the importance of maintaining adequate hydration. Our bodies are made up of about 70% water, and it is essential to every single function we perform, including digestion, assimilation, elimination, circulation and body temperature regulation. The level of water in the cells is critical to the body’s ability to effectively perform any physical activity, and is just as critical in the ability to recover from activity and repair damaged tissue. When you’re pregnant and trying to encourage an incredible level of cell growth and repair, water is even more essential.

Most people don’t realize that once you are feeling thirsty, you are already dehydrated, and since dehydration has multiple signs and symptoms that aren’t good for you, it is best to avoid this condition. Use your urine as an easy indicator of your hydration levels. It should appear very pale or clear in color and should be odorless. Yellow or dark yellow, aromatic urine is a sure sign of dehydration. Keeping your daily water intake high, and avoiding foods and beverages that contribute to dehydration, like coffee, soft drinks and alcohol, should help you to keep your body’s fluid levels in balance and your baby’s growth optimal.
