Nothing would please me more if I could just plop my kids in front of the television for hours on end, guilt-free. Thankfully, we live in a great age where we can entertain our children while they learn a little something. My favorite place to find great educational animated series for free is Netflix. I also take full advantage of Xfinity On Demand, PBS Kids, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and DVDs.
Whether it was the epic Canadian fashion sported by Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau and Michelle Obama at the recent White House state dinner or the new sense of hope and ‘cool’ that has descended over our beaver and toque-loving nation, our first Mother’s Day Gift Guide features all things Canadian. And yes, for you American readers, it means that the prices are about 25% less than what we are publishing so your purchasing power will go even farther for MOM! Let’s Go Canada for Mothers Day this year!
There are few treats in life as precious as a photograph that communicates instantly with a viewer, and Annie Griffiths does this with every shot. One of the first women photographers to work for National Geographic, Griffiths has photographed in more than a hundred countries during her illustrious career.
The other day I was so engrossed with something happening on a Facebook feed, I didn’t realize my children were completely trashing our playroom. Cry for attention maybe? It’s so easy to get distracted with the never ending access to people and entertainment with smart technology. What started as a “quick check” of Facebook turned into, well, a lot longer.
This year with Valentine’s Day falling on a Sunday it means no sleeping in the next morning. Kids need to be woken for school, lunches packed, homework double checked and everyone out the door on time. Just the thought of going out for a romantic dinner and maybe dancing or a movie and having to get up early the next morning makes me cringe. Its hard enough to get everyone going on a Monday when I have had a good night’s sleep! So this Valentine’s Day we will be having a Netflix Date.
The New Year brings us more than an urge to make resolutions, clean out cupboards and start new regimes: it brings colds and flus. For parents with little ones, this is a most difficult time of year. Just when we were ready to bustle them into their coats and mitts and head back to school, they come down with something just ghastly enough to keep them from attending… yet not so debilitating it knocks them out for the day.
Despite the fact that most of us have a pretty high quality digital camera with us every waking minute, most of the pictures you have of you and your children consist of posed snapshots taken on special occasions. It’s the ordinary moments when it’s just you and them around the house or at the park that are most special, but rarely get captured.
It seems like shopping for the holiday season is getting harder and harder. Finding a unique gift that can not only be enjoyed by all, but also has some staying power, can be difficult – but not impossible! Good news. Disney Infinity 3.0 is no flash-in-the-pan!
