When you think of electric and eco-friendly, what level of style and class do you generally expect? I know. Probably something that is compostable and not always reliable. But.. what about when you think about the BMW brand? Strong, luxurious and design-conscious, right? I had the opportunity to try the electric BMWi3 and the experience was unexpected, unforgettable and definitely luxurious. I most definitely enjoyed the drive. And my kids kept refusing to get out of the vehicle.
Birthday parties don’t have to break the bank! There are lots of ways to cut costs and still have a great time making memories with your kid’s friends. Here are some tips to make entertaining a little easier on the pocketbook (and your stress level!)
The school library, the one period of the day or week when you didn’t have to worry about “work”, because being in the library doesn’t feel like “work” because you’re surrounded by books. School libraries full of books can instill a love of travel. They can teach about social injustice. You can learn about exciting people who live amazing lives.
I don’t remember a time when I had a good relationship with food. Even when I was little, I remember being embarrassed by the fact that I was hungry and liked foods other kids turned their noses up at, spinach et al.
When my now threenager had just turned one and was starting to really get into food, I made an appointment for us to see a child nutritionist. “Is he a picky eater?” she asked in her office. “Oh, he’s eating perfectly,” I told her. “He eats avocado and salmon, eggs….you name it, all the good stuff.” I paused to answer the question on her lips. “We’re here because I have never had a good relationship with food. I know that the implications of this have been far reaching in my life—and I want to know what I need to do to make sure it doesn’t happen to him.” I realized then that nutritionists aren’t into psychological counseling and that I needed to learn my own coping mechanisms that I could implement into my life and pass on to my child.
The start of September means different things for different people. For some, it means the start of another school year, for others it means the commencement of crazy schedules, and for many it means that winter is becoming increasingly imminent.
For me, September has always been a New Year of sorts. This is likely because I have spent almost my entire life immersed in the world of education; regardless, the end of summer seems to go hand-in-hand with new beginnings and September feels full of blank pages that are just waiting to be filled.
Packing when you are carrying on can be a challenge – particularly when you consider the limitations on liquids in your carry-on. It can be hard to decide what to prioritize from your beauty routine. The good news is, thanks to these products from LUSH, you don’t have to sacrifice looking or feeling good while you’re travelling abroad.
I’ve recently decided to get back in the swing of things at the gym and to pull that off, I needed a new fitness wardrobe. I deserved one. That’s what I told myself as I walked into Lolë at Tsawwassen Mills. I have been sorely in need of motivation and I always feel better when I look better. I found so many things that I fell in love with in the store to get me set to sweat.
I’ve been social on the Internet since before the days of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat…and all of the other social media platform. It was me and my laptop and a blog I set up for free, writing my feelings on the Internet and sharing stories with others that allowed us to connect over “Me Too.”
The stories I shared at the time were mostly about my kids. The witching hour before bedtime, major milestones (First Day of School! First Day of School!) and adventures we went on as a family. As they got older, the stories about them have waned, because while venting about a toddler having a meltdown in public is commonplace, talking about personal issues that their friends can Google just isn’t an option in our house. If I do write about them, it gets their stamp of approval before I hit “Publish.”
When I received my sample of SeabuckWonders Exfoliating Facial Cleanser, I admit that I was a little jaded.
If you look in the closet in my bathroom (Please don’t ever do that. Seriously.) you will see, gathering dust on the third shelf next to a triple-barrel curling iron and one of those wands that was supposed to give me spiral curls but actually wound up burning most of the whorls off my thumb and index finger: several half-used tubs of sea salt/sugar scrubs in varying sizes and scents, yellow gloves, a giant loofah, multiple bath poofs, and a plastic bin full of sample tubes from different product lines, all for the purpose of exfoliating my skin.
Some of them…many of them…smell bad. Others are gooey and unpleasant. Still others left me looking freshly peeled or caused breakouts. And one kept clogging my bathtub drain.
Sounds of electronics filled the air as I happily chopped up some things to get dinner ready.
The doorbell rang and I froze.
Not even a moment later, I jumped into action by grabbing and hiding the Ipads away from two now unhappy children before I got to the door.
What kind of mother would anyone think I am if the minute we get home, my son and daughter are given electronics to entertain themselves?
