Simple Stroller Workouts

baby, FAM, fitness, GEAR By January 14, 2010 Tags: , , , No Comments

Ready to get started? We’ve included a sample workout for you to try. Feel free to get creative and modify it for your enjoyment.

Warm Up – Stand in front of your baby and roll your head from shoulder to shoulder. Always do head “rolls” in the front, never the back.  After a few of those, do some shoulder rolls. Roll out any kinks and tension you might have in your body.  Walk gently for 5 minutes or so to get the blood flowing.  Stop for a quick stretch (a longer stretch should be done after you workout).

GEAR, home By January 14, 2010 Tags: , , , , 1 Comment

chalkboard paint for kids roomsAnd we thought that black chalkboard paint was cool.  Imagine being able to make a wipe-off-able rainbow… Hudson Paint has just released its fab chalkboard paint in 24 new colors.  Paint the kids snack table, create a child-height border around their bedroom, or finally get organized by making a flow chart on a wall in the mudroom. You could also paint the inside of kitchen cupboard doors, or make a wipe-able calendar on your office wall.  Resolution to get organized?  Done.

The things i’ve learned from being a parent

baby, FAM, kids By January 12, 2010 Tags: , , , , 2 Comments

Who are any of us, really, to offer parenting tips?  Every child, parent and relationship are so different, and this is why UrbanMommies is less a blog, and more a pragmatic, information-based online magazine with more information than opinions.  But… there is always more to learn and tricks of the trade can be very helpful in making our lives easier and more manageable.  We’ve listed a few tips on parenting, but would also like for you to add your own in the comments section.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter FIrming Lotion

Palmers Cocoa Butter Firming LotionAnother Pina Colada, pool boy… oh darn.  Confused again.  This gorgeous belly cream is not only helping rid us of stretch marks and excess skin as we trim down, but the coconut scent has us convinced that we are a good deal  south of Canada.  Palmer’s Firming Butter was voted one of our reader’s top belly products, so we had to try it.  And we love a bargain.  (Shhh).  It is available at drug stores, and is so inexpensive it might just be the extra excuse you need to stick with your diet.  www.palmers.com

Sick Infants – Judging the Severity of Illness

baby, FAM, health By January 9, 2010 Tags: , , No Comments

During the first 2 years of a child’s life, most parents feel uncomfortable and inadequate in determining how sick their infant is during a cold or other infection. Since the sick infant can’t talk, he can’t help much with the diagnosis. How sick your child looks or acts is much more relevant than the level of fever. Also, a child may look much better 30 to 40 minutes after the fever is reduced with medicine.  When should you call your child’s health care provider?

Green One Bags

GEAR, home By January 6, 2010 Tags: , , , 2 Comments

firenzie_blueDenimOne of our resolutions this year is to proudly announce to the grocery store clerk… ‘no thank you.  I don’t need bags.  I have brought my own.’  Little did we know that few cloth bags are created equal.  First there are those with skinny handles that cut into your hands or shoulder, then the crappy ones that develop holes, and finally, there is the ‘useless’ group – too small for any real groceries and good for only 2 wine bottles (what use is that?).  UrbanMommies tried the stunning organic GreenOne Bag and we were thrilled beyond belief.
