While in Seattle (Washington) recently, Urban Mommies discovered Molly Moon’s Ice Cream and fell in love! The hand-made ice cream boutique has been featured in Bon Appetit magazine and features fantastic and creative gourmet and European flavours. There’s Birthday Cake and “Scout” Mint for the kids and flavours like Balsamic Strawberry, Honey Lavender and Rosemary Meyer Lemon for the big kids. The flavours–which include vegan sorbets–change daily and they have fabulously creative odd sundaes. Their prices are cheap and their portions are huge! Here’s a tip for ordering: the “single scoop” is really more than one scoop, so you can order two different flavours for the “single scoop” price!
Molly Moon, and that is her real name (and that’s her dog Parker Posey in the logo), has a fascinating story of quitting her music and politics executive life to pursue her ice cream dream. She has built a thoroughly green company: her shops are built with sustainable and recycled materials, they compost their bowls and napkins and the ice creams are made with locally grown ingredients that are often organic.
They have two Seattle locations where you can grab a scoop or two, hang out with friends or take home a tub of your favourite flavour. Their Capitol Hill location is across from a large park which makes for a great summer family afternoon of ice cream and sun-soaked fun (yes it is occasionally sunny in Seattle). Beware of a likely little line-up but don’t let that deter you. They move things along quickly, so the wait is minimal, while maintaining very friendly and personal service.
A warm, family-friendly atmosphere? Fantastic creative flavours? A green company? What’s not to love? Next time you’re in Seattle, be sure to check out this Urban Mommies favourite! Hey, could you bring us back some Salted Caramel? And Jasmine Green Tea? And Vivace Coffee? And Mandarin Chocolate Sorbet? And……..
