St. Johns, found in ruggedly beautiful Newfoundland, is the oldest English-founded city on the continent! Its roots are in the sea, where the cod fishery once formed the foundation of its importance, and when the fisheries collapsed the city and province slumped; the discovery of oil nearby has flushed St. John’s and Newfoundland with new life. It is a wonderful place to visit, with many things to do and see as a family. Here are some of our favourite things to do with kids in St Johns.
Aquarena Water Park. Located at 17 Westerland Rd., this facility boasts a huge, Olympic-size swimming pool, two of the largest indoor water slides east of Alberta, a health/fitness center, squash courts, shops, and much more.
Rotary Young Children’s Playground. This modern, well-maintained playground features a huge assortment of playground equipment for young children, picnic areas, and walking trails designed in the intricate, interwoven Celtic friendship knot patterns.
Fluvarium Family Underwater Adventure. This unique and unusual building found on the shore of Long Pond in St. John’s Pippy Park reveals the secret goings-on of underwater river life. The underwater windows allow visitors to spy on brown trout in their riparian habitat, alongside exhibits and displays of other freshwater creatures and plants. This is the only year-round, public fluvarium in the entire continent!
Bannerman Park. This Victorian-style park has a public swimming pool, a kids’ playground, a baseball field, and plenty of green areas for picnicking and outdoor play. Bannerman Park hosts many festivals and sporting events, such as the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival and St. Johns Peace-a-chord. The park is also the finishing location for the Tely 10 Mile Road Race.
Tours. There are several excellent tours in and around St. Johns, especially marine tours where you can watch whales and see icebergs! Head down to the Waterfront, where you can choose from several private tour companies throughout the year.

Just to let you know, there are a few errors in this post. The Rotary Park is in Fort St John, in BC, not St John’s, NFLD. Also,I think that you’re referencing Bowring Park, which is located by the Waterford Bridge Road. The Bowring Park is fantastic.
Nope…there is a Rotary Park on Elizabeth
Avenue in St. John’s, NL. You are correct about
the location of Bowring Park, but the poster is
referring to Bannerman Park, where the annual
folk festival is held. Her information is accurate.
No, there is no park at 95 Eliz Ave in St. John’s. I’m currently sitting in front of the Johnsons Insurance building at that address.
